Mission
Ketterlinus Elementary School media program and services are designed to support and expand the work in the classroom while providing for individual differences and enrichment needs to attain basic skills and achieve identified goals. It provides an opportunity for students to acquire and strengthen skills in reading, listening, observing and communicating ideas. It promotes a lifelong love of learning by providing both materials to stimulate growth and instruction to access and evaluate information.

Scheduling
The media center is open each day at 8:00 a.m. and closes at 3:30 with the exception of Wednesday when it closes at 2:30 to allow for staff development programs.
Kindergarten through fifth grade have a scheduled library class every other week between 8:45 and 12:00. The library is always open on a flexible access, even during scheduled classes, to allow students to access information as needed, when it is pertinent. Each day, after 12:00 p.m. the library is open on a flexible basis allowing for collaborative instruction or independent use.

Check Out Procedures
All students are required to have a signed permission slip to check out library materials. Students are responsible to replace any lost or damaged items. Kindergarten students are allowed to check out one library book at a time.
First grade students are allowed to check out two library books at a time.
Second grade students may check out three items at a time which include books and magazines.
Third grade students may check out four items at a time which include books, magazines and reference books.
Fourth and fifth grade students may check out one item more than the grade they are in which include books, magazines and reference books.
Parents may check out as many items as they would like.
Books are checked out for two weeks.
Reference books and magazines are checked out for three days.
